OUT Astoria organizes the LGBT community in Astoria and provide a forum for dialogue and getting to know one another. By creating OUT Astoria, we can expand beyond monthly dinners into other regular events, such as cocktail parties at Astoria bars, weekend brunches, and much more. We will identify and focus on friendly businesses that want our dollars. We’d also like to be a place where gay and lesbian Astorians can meet others who share their interests, from theater or game nights to karaoke or professional networking —anything and everything. We have heard ideas already for smaller, more intimate socials such as a wine-tasting party, movie nights, a book club, and a gathering for gay comic-book geeks. We welcome your thoughts: What would you like to get together to do? OUT Astoria is a social organization that is open to all, but our intention is to concentrate on Astoria; to serve those who ride the N/W line (between 39th Avenue and Ditmars) and the R line (36th Street through 46th Street stops). For the remainder of this year we intend to keep membership free. At the year’s end we will evaluate the needs and finances of our events and website to determine if membership fees are necessary.
